How Our Fund Scoring Works
Each mutual fund receives a 0–100 score (A/B/C/D/F grade) based on 5 factors derived entirely from SEC EDGAR filing data. Scores compare funds within their category — a Bond fund is scored against other Bond funds, not against Equity funds.
Cost Efficiency
30%
Expense ratio compared to category average. Lower cost = higher score.
Risk-Adjusted Return
25%
Annual return relative to risk (volatility). Higher Sharpe-like ratio = better.
Size & Stability
15%
Net assets under management. Larger funds are generally more stable and liquid.
Diversification
15%
Number of portfolio holdings from N-PORT filings. More holdings = lower concentration risk.
Fee Transparency
15%
Absence of sales loads (front/back), low 12b-1 fees, and presence of fee waivers.
